Louise and her husband and partner, Al Root, left as partners in a large Asheville law firm in 1994 and have been practicing together as Root and Root, in Weaverville, since then.

Board Certified Specialist in Workers' Compensation Law
After graduating from the School of Law at the University of North Carolina in 1981, Louise worked as an Assistant District Attorney in New York City, in Brooklyn. She moved back to North Carolina in 1984, which is when she began practicing law in Buncombe County.
For the past 20 years Louise has practiced exclusively in the field of workers compensation law. She was board certified as a specialist in workers' compensation law in 2000, the first year this specialty examination was offered by the North Carolina State Bar. Louise was appointed to the Workers' Compensation Law Specialty Committee in April 2006. She served as Chair of this committee, which writes and grades the workers' compensation specialization exam as well as reviews applications for workers' compensation specialization certification and recertification, from 2010 to 2012.
Louise was a member of the North Carolina Bar Association's Workers' Compensation Council from 1997 to 2003 and was elected to another term on that council in 2010.
